If you have a business it is vital that conduct pre-employment background screening on individuals you hire. Not doing so could result in you being liable if the employee you didn't do a background on causes damage to your business, employees or customer.
For example, let's say you own a pizza restaurant and you hire someone to deliver pizzas. Bobby delivers a pizza to a home and 2 weeks later that home is burglarized or robbed. Through an investigation it is found the burglar is Bobby the pizza guy.
The home owner gets an attorney and sues the pizza restaurant. It is learned that a pre-employment criminal background was not done. If one would have been done the pizza restaurant owner would have seen that Bobby was a career criminal. Bingo. It is an excellent chance the pizza restaurant owner will have to pay damages.
How about if you have rental property. Tenant screening is a must. Let's say you have an applicant, the application and references look good and you rent to this person without doing tenant screening. A month or so later the 10 year old next door is molested and it is learned it was your tenant who has a criminal history of sex crimes. He/she may even be a registered sex offender. Guess who will be sued for not doing due diligence.
Food for thought. A small investment in conducting a criminal background check could save you dollars in the future,
